In 1981 Slim Borgudd was a talented racing driver desperately trying to get into Formula 1. But F1 is a sport where money is as important as talent.

Slim used to be a musician and he knew the members of ABBA. And they jumped on the F1 wagon and sponsored Slim.

He quickly managed to get a seat in the ATS F1 car, replacing Dutch driver Jan Lammers. Slim drove 8 Grand Prix races in 1981 showing the ABBA logo.

In 1982 he drove for Tyrrell, this time not sponsored by ABBA anymore. After four races he was 'released from his contract'. Reason: his lack of financial resources.

These pictures of the ABBA formula 1 car were taken by me at the Zandvoort race track during the weekend of the 1981 Dutch Grand Prix on August 29 and August 30 1981.
