If you change your mind | 1 October 2004
This is the first editorial that you can read in the new layout of ABBA Plaza. Time to look at why I have changed the site. First of all I wanted a change because I was a bit tired of the old "four faces" image on the homepage. The soft focus and vaguely fading faces was just something I didn't want to look at anymore. Not that the site looked bad, it didn't. But if you at the same picture day after day, then you want a new and fresh image. Then I thought that the menu system didn't work good anymore. It was restricted in the text length of the items in the submenu. And the floating windows started to irritate me. I want a menu that is effective and intuitive. The old menu was effective, but less intuitive. An other reason for changing the site was the Add to Favourites possibility and the Display Settings. Nobody ever used that, so they needed to go. Very important for me was that the homepage had to be more informative. The changes in the site should be more prominent on the homepage. The use of the poll had to be on the homepage only and also the use of the Quick Links could be restricted to the start page only. Finally I wanted ABBA Plaza to be more mature in the way it looked and the colours it used. That's when I started experimenting with the layout. I created a new look and feel and showed it to a couple of fans. They didn't like it much, to put it mildly. But their criticism helped me a lot. I used it to create the current layout. I hope that the result is that I kept the good parts of the old site and improved some parts that could be improved. I am very curious about how you all feel about it and I would like to ask you to tell me what you think about it. One thing though: the new four-faces image on the front page is final; there can be no discussion about that :) |
